Getting Started
CAN YOU WALK ME THROUGH THE STEPS TO CUSTOMIZE A CHAIR?
We offer six styles — or Collections — of chairs and bar stools: The Alexander, The Baker, The Densmore, The Greenwell, The Everett, and The Lee Children’s.
Select the desired Collection and then select between the arm/side chair or bar/counter stool depending upon the Collection. This will direct you to the respective Product page. By clicking on options in the dropdown boxes you may select the finish, fabric, monogram style, initials, and thread color. The customization feature allows you to immediately preview how your monogram will look on the chair and the price of the chair based on the options selected. Please keep in mind this is a computer-generated image and does not reflect the quality, craftsmanship, and overall beauty of the actual product. The customization feature is user-friendly, interactive, and very fun. We encourage you to explore all the possibilities.
A monogram tab has also been provided where you can study the different monograms available. By clicking on a specific monogram you will see a composite of how all the letters look in that particular monogram. Honestly, some letters look better in one monogram than they do in another. You may prefer the Kate “S” to the Charlotte “S” or vice versa. Please invest some time evaluating the monogram options to see which best suits your initials, your personality, and the visual you hope to achieve. WHAT IS THE CORRECT ORDER OF INITIALS IN A MONOGRAM?
For individuals, a traditional three-initial monogram is the first name initial on the left, the last name initial in the center and larger, and the middle name initial on the right. You may also choose a two-initial monogram using the first and last initials.
In recent years, couples have been opting for a “duogram” or joined monogram. For married couples with the same last name, the wife’s first initial is typically on the left, the couple’s last name initial in the center and larger, and the husband’s first name initial typically on the right. For couples with different last names or hyphenated last names, a popular option is a two-initial monogram using the initials of both last names or both first names.
If you have a three-initial monogram whose acronym has another meaning, it is completely appropriate to switch the letters or consider a two-initial monogram. Four-initial monograms can also be accommodated. Remember when it is all said and done a monogram should represent what is most meaningful to you. ARE MORE FABRIC AND THREAD COLORS AVAILABLE?
Yes. There are more color options available for each of our fabric styles: Performance Linen, Performance Velvet, Performance Diamond Twill, and Herringbone Twill. In addition, there are hundreds of thread colors from which to choose. We will gladly work with you to identify wonderful fabric and thread options for your project.
WHERE ARE THE CHAIRS MADE?
Our chairs are made in the USA using hand-crafted European Beechwood frames imported from Italy. Each frame is assembled, finished, and upholstered — one chair at a time — in High Point, North Carolina. IS THE CUSTOMIZED PREVIEW OF MY CHAIR ACCURATE TO WHAT I WILL RECEIVE?
The customization feature utilized on our website is a tool that approximates, as closely as possible, the finish, fabric, monogram style, and thread color you have selected. The preview of those selections is quite accurate but still best used for proofing purposes. We may occasionally make slight adjustments to the size, placement, and stitch pattern of a monogram but only for the purpose of enhancing the overall aesthetic. The Lifestyle images throughout the website are much truer representations of the color, quality, craftsmanship, and overall beauty of the chair(s) you will receive. Our goal is for your J. DO YOU ACCEPT COM ORDERS?
Yes, we love working with fabrics that you have selected with intention for your space. Before ordering the yardage required for your project, we request that you provide us with a sample of the fabric you have in mind so we can confirm that a successful monogram can be produced that meets our standards — and yours — for beauty and durability. CAN YOU MONOGRAM THE FRONT AND THE BACK OF THE CHAIR?
Absolutely. While most monograms go on the front of a chair, the traffic flow and dynamics of a room may lend themselves to putting the monogram on the back of a chair where it will be more visible — more enjoyed. Clients will often put a monogram on the back of a desk chair or bar stools. On occasion we put a monogram on the front AND the back of a chair so the monogram can be seen coming and going. MY FIANCÉ AND I HAVE HAD A CUSTOM MONOGRAM CREATED FOR OUR WEDDING. IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE OUR MONOGRAM PUT ON TWO OF YOUR CHAIRS TO BE USED AT THE HEAD TABLE AT OUR RECEPTION?
We adore helping a bride and groom incorporate their custom monogram into the details of their wedding and reception. A custom monogram on a beautiful chair can make a special event even more special. IN ADDITION TO PURCHASING MONOGRAMMED HOST AND HOSTESS CHAIRS, I WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE SIDE CHAIRS FOR OUR DINING ROOM AS WELL BUT PREFER THEY NOT BE MONOGRAMMED. IS THIS POSSIBLE?
Yes. For coordinating chairs which do not include a monogram, we offer a discount of 25% off the retail price of the monogrammed chair. I HAVE EXISTING FAMILY CHAIRS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MONOGRAMMED. COULD I GET J. WILKINSON CHAIR COMPANY TO PROVIDE JUST THE MONOGRAM?
Yes, we can provide a “monogram only” service for existing chairs. While we cannot provide upholstery services for these products, we will be happy to share tips for the successful upholstery of your monogram panels. WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?
Each chair from J. Wilkinson Chair Company is a custom piece designed by and created especially for you. It is absolutely unique. Please review your order carefully prior to placing it as we cannot accept cancellations or returns due to the very custom nature of our process.
We take great care with every order and strive to avoid mistakes of any kind. If, however, a mistake does occur on our end to an order placed correctly, we will gladly make things right. Our desire is for you to be thrilled with your purchase and your experience working with J. Wilkinson Chair Company. WHAT IS YOUR SHIPPING POLICY?
J. Wilkinson Chair Company delivers within the continental United States and the District of Columbia.
Your custom order will ship White Glove Delivery to a residential address and is estimated to arrive in 12 to 14 weeks. Prior to your shipment reaching its destination you will receive a call from our delivery partner to schedule a day and time for home delivery. Upon delivery, your order will be taken to your room of choice, set in place, and all packing materials removed.

Care
ARE YOUR CHAIRS MADE FOR OUTDOOR USE?
The short answer is no. However, with that said, our chairs can be used and enjoyed temporarily whenever an outdoor event is planned. Most all of the fabrics we offer are performance which certainly lends them to outdoor use. Feature them at an outdoor wedding reception, dinner party, bridal portrait, birthday party, graduation party — any celebration really. DO YOU OFFER A PROTECTION OR TREATMENT FOR THE CHAIR FABRIC?
We do not. However, performance fabrics are generally stain resistant, liquid resistant, pill resistant, fade resistant, anti-mildew and eco-friendly. You can refer to our fabric care guide here.

HOW SHOULD I PROPERLY CARE FOR MY MONOGRAM?
In addition to being beautiful, monograms are more durable than one might imagine. Just think of all those gorgeous monograms created decades ago that we still enjoy today. With that said, common sense does rule the day. Please avoid sharp objects, buttons, zippers, or snaps coming in contact with the monogram. You are fine sitting in your monogrammed chair everyday as the stitch density is calibrated for maximum “tightness” to avoid snagging and pulling of the thread but we encourage you not to let your monogrammed chair become your dog or cat’s favorite sleeping spot.
While most of our fabrics are performance, the highly-quality threads used in our monograms are not deemed performance. Follow the cleaning instructions for your chair’s fabric, but we highly recommend the monogram itself be professionally cleaned if and when the need arises.
